WARD MAKES PUBLIC ETHICS DISCLOSURE
2008-08-03 14:08:11
Daniel J. Ward, Democratic candidate for New York Senate, 61st District, today announced release of his 2007 New York State Board of Ethics disclosure statement. Ward received forms from the New York State Legislature, as he is a qualified candidate, and filed them before the July 18, 2008 deadline. "I have completed these ethics disclosure statements in a timely manner, and filed them in Albany. I challenge my opponents to similarly release their ethics filing statements. My disclosure basically shows me free from any business or corporate entanglements, other than my two (2) sources of income: my service with the Town of Amherst as a councilman, and my professional law practice." Ward said he personally felt the disclosure forms did not go far enough and he wants to change that in state government. He has been a long-time advocate to the total elimination of all gratuities to public officers, and elected officials "I believe the new state senator from our district must make it perfectly clear, right from the get-go, that business as usual in the field of ethics is not enough. We have had far too many ethical lapses lately in state government, and the public deserves better." Ward was the author of the first draft of the Town of Amherst ethics local law.
Press Release: Dan Ward for NYS

The State Board of Elections received petitions bearing the signatures of 2,416 registered Democrats in the 61st State Senate District asking long time town board member, Daniel Ward's name be placed on the ballot for the September Democratic Party primary. The district consists of the Northern Erie County Towns of Tonawanda and Amherst, a portion of the City of Tonawanda, and the whole of Genesee County. Petitions were delivered to the State Board of Elections by Dan and campaign manager Tom Weisbeck. When asked about the petition drive Dan had this to say: "I got on my bicycle and did what I usually do. Rode through the neighborhoods, asking for the assistance of the Democratic voter. I believe that they are appreciative of my public stance in support of their communities and their quality of life. That will be a big concern of mine once I get to Albany. We live in the 2nd poorest community in the nation. The farmers of Genesee County, the residents of the smaller cities like Batavia and Tonawanda, the residents of small communities of Elba, Oakfield, Alabama, and the big suburbs of Tonawanda and Amherst all are struggling today and have been struggling for the last 30 years. It really is time for change. These people deserve better, and I promise that I will do my best to get the State of New York to give us the means to be a prosperous, successful community. So successful that our scatterling children return home." I want to thank all those men and women who helped me in this petition process. Your hard work made me work hard.
